Oscar-winner Martin Scorsese is no longer directing a documentary about late reggae icon Bob Marley, RollingStone.com reports. Stepping in for Scorsese will be Silence of the Lambs director Jonathan Demme, who also helmed the acclaimed Talking Heads concert documentary Stop Making Sense and Neil Young: Heart of Gold. The Marley film is due February 6th, 2010, which would have been the singer's 65th birthday. Scorsese cited "scheduling reasons" for his decision. He also has a George Harrison documentary, a reported Frank Sinatra biopic and other projects in the works.
Marley's son, Ziggy Marley, is executive producing the documentary. A separate Marley biopic, based on a book by Bob's widow, Rita Marley, is also in the works.
