John Lennon has topped the latest list of Britain's greatest songwriters.

The prestigious Ivor Novello Awards ceremony took place in London. The ceremony takes place saluting the year's best songwriters. In celebration of the annual awards, which acknowledges the best in British music, London's Telegraph ran a list of the 50 Best British Songwriters .

The Top 20 Best British Songwriters, according to London's The Telegraph are:

Honorable mention goes to George Michael who came in at Number 34, George Harrison who placed at Number 36, and Sting who came in at Number 40.
