Let me introduce myself
July 31st, 2008 by Larry-spokaneI was recently invited by KXLY management to come onboard as the new program director for the River. I accepted their invitiation and I’d like to introduce myself. This is a homecoming for me. I attended college at nearby Eastern Washington State University back in the early 70’s. From there I went to work for KREM-FM and eventually became that historic (first) Spokane rock station’s second program director from 1977 through 1980. I was also on the air back then in afternoon drive. During that time Mt.St.Helen’s erupted and KREM-FM became one of this market’s most successful radio stations. I returned to Spokane in the late 80’s as the second-ever program director of the market’s (still) premiere classic rock station - where again also served on the air as afternoon dj.
My son and daughter both live in this area as do many close friends - so this is a wonderful homecoming for me indeed.
I love the River. I look forward to - with my team - doing everything possible to maintaining and growing the River’s already unique position in this radio market. I’ll do everything possible to make the River even a better radio station - even more responsive to your collective wishes.
Rest assured that I am not here to make the River sound like every other station…but rather to maintain it’s freshness, it’s uniqueness, it’s position as the quality/varietal musical leader in the market and region - and more importantly, to use the radio station’s reach and “power” to support causes dear to all of us - like in helping to clean up our local river systems.
It’s great to be home.
